Use of a Scattered Light Sensor for Monitoring the Dispersed Surface in Crystallization

The specific surface area of the dispersed phase in suspensions, emulsions, bubble columns and aerosols plays a decisive role increasement heat mass transfer processes. Initial investigations show that an easy-to-install optical backscatter sensor outputs as primary signal under certain boundary conditions. article describes construction, mode operation first applying this new sensor. works even high concentrated suspensions where conventional nephelometry already fails. Trends limitations found so far for sensor, which can be used in-line batch continuously operated crystallizers, harsh environments potentially explosive zones, are shown.
